This week...

Struck me this week how much my skin has tanned just recently, what with the glorious weather we've been enjoying down here and my lunchtime jaunts on the moors. Lord only knows how much I appreciate being able to get out and about, considering the troubles I've had with reoccurring paralysis. Makes it all more worth the while. Seeing unfit flabby people up on the moors, splayed nauseatingly across sun beds and sweltering in the sun, however, can be a little off-putting. Sure, to them this may be the way to enjoy what's around them, though I'm adamant that upright and moving about on my two feet is giving me the better experience. So long as I remember to start putting sun-block on, that'll remain to be the case. I think I've been quite lucky not to get burned so far...I mean, this isn't a light tan I've got now...

At the office, we had a young chap on work experience. Must admit that I'd not be bothered by this if our office had the capacity to baby-sit a fifteen/sixteen year old for a week without it disrupting my work. Of course, when it came to CAD work, he was dumped on me and I could wave goodbye to any chance of getting through my workload. Last year's student was extremely adept and took to CAD instantly. Alongside a great intuition and willingness to plough on with his tasks, he had managed to work things out for himself and needed little instruction from me - just the basics to set him going. This year was a little more work but then, there's no escaping that AutoCAD can, for the total newbie, seem a nightmare of an application to use.

I ordered a new tripod for use with our Pentax quick set level. This new quick clamp aluminium tripod replaces our ancient wooden one...which has really seen better days. Didn't arrive in time for when I had to go out and check the invert levels along a surface water drain in the road adjacent to the Phase II development of the University of Plymouth's sports centre. Yeah...fun...bet you're really envious of me doing these...exciting tasks. Well it makes a change from being sat at my workstation designing all day.

Of course, needless to say, Meg and I have been up and about on the moors today...and will again tomorrow. My sister came down from Manchester on Friday but goes back up again tomorrow afternoon - a shorter stay than I had hoped but she'll back again in two or three weeks, so it's not too bad.
