Back :)
Late last night I returned home from a few days away at my grandparent’s house in Cosham. I had gone with my sister and she had driven us in her car, the first time I'd ever let myself be driven anywhere by her in one of her own cars. Might be the last time, though admittedly things weren't as bad as I was expecting. I was surprised at the acceleration, or lack thereof, that her car possessed. Then again, it's an old 1.8 diesel engine in a large heavy car, whereas I tend to drive smaller, lighter cars with large petrol engines.
Anywho, that's a moot point. I've had a great time away. I just love grandma's cooking - it's the best in the world! Fish and chips from Mother Kelly’s are also another excellent reason to go. You'll be hard pressed to find better fish. The weather was brilliant. Summer seemed to have returned across the UK for the weekend and I've super boosted my tan, which has left me with a healthy looking glow.
Something we always do is walk along the sea front at Southsea, which, if one was to park at the far of the sea front proper, walked to the other end and back, would probably make a good nine mile walk. Perhaps ten? Well I was amazed at the number of Indians that were there. I'm guessing a rather large group had come over for their holidays. I've never seen so many in one place. The women made me feel very hot, being all wrapped up in layers of traditional dress; and the men looked very smart. They all seem to take great pride in how they look, which I guess is no bad thing.
Saw some very attractive Asian women ((Japanese I think)). Turns out my sister wouldn't be very happy if I ended up with a woman of Japanese origin; thinking I should stick with a proper English woman. Personally, I don't care.
We got to see our father's brother and family - though one of our cousins, Lee, wasn't about. No matter, it was nice to see them and their two little puppy dogs - Bert and Toby. I helped Martin ((Dad's brother)) with his computer, though the main issues seemed to have fixed themselves in my presence. Nothing new there.
We had gone to the house next door, to collect things to bring home for selling at Church jumble sales or what have you. The old woman who lived there had died a short while back and the house is in the process of being cleared. The family have had their chance to take whatever they want and now the rest is being cleared for the dump or charity. I didn't know her very well. My memories where mostly of her or her husband telling us ((the four grandchildren - me, Naomi, Lee and Daniel)) off for kicking footballs over into their garden on numerous occasions when we where younger.
Speaking of being young, I have been given an old file full of photographs of my sister and I, as well as photographs of us with our cousins playing at my grandparents house. Those are good memories. We used to play hide and seek, though many of the hiding places are now gone - such as the plum and apple trees, the old greenhouse, the incinerator ((we didn't hide inside it mind you!)). Inside and outside the house were, and still are, plenty of good places to hide. We'd also play cricket a lot during Summer holidays. Innocent devices for spraying water would become weapons for war games. We had tricycles and bikes for racing around the gardens. It was all great fun. Lord only knows how much I miss those days.
Some day I'm going to scan all these photos, as well as others we have in numerous albums, into the computer so we have a digital library.
We followed the cricket and golf during the weekend. England are currently winning 2-0 against the West Indies and look set to win the series, with another two test matches to go. Yesterday we won with a margin of about 240 runs. As for the golf; hats off to Karen Stupples who played extremely well and lead the pack for most of the tournament. She dropped behind for a short while, though came back with some superb golf yesterday to end up top of the leader board once again.
Goes to show that not all is lost for British sport. If only people here would realise there is more to life than football and Steve 'for God's sake stop milking it' Redgrave. My greatest pet peeve is coming up...the Olympics. We don't always do very well in the Olympics and I gather that this year we've done worse than ever in simply qualifying to take part. However, we completely dominate the Paralympics most years and no one seems to give a hoot. You hardly see anything from the Paralympics on television. Coverage of the event is on the up though, so it's not all bad.
I think I've rambled for long enough now. :)
