Strange feeling...
Today was strange. I haven't been looking forward to it but then once I was there I had other things to distract me from...certain issues. I had an appointment with my Chiropractor this morning who, it turned out, was at a funeral so I was seen by one of his colleagues and she was very pleasant. Sarah was there, or at least...I think it was Sarah. Sounded like her and looked similar but something was screaming "It might not be who you think it is" so I just kept quiet. She used to work at the clinic years ago but then went travelling, though returned last year. I've not seen much of her. Guessing it wasn't her now...wish I could have said for sure.
On returning to the office, the parts I'd ordered to replace my dead workstation had arrived. I walked past the delivery guy, who was on his way out, as I walked in to the office. While my computer has been incognito, I've been working on Tom's machine, seeing he's on holiday. The three of us have identical computers, so it's just a matter of taking my hdd and swapping it with his and it's like I'm still using my workstation, just in another room. I unpacked and installed the new motherboard, cpu ((got one of the new Celeron D processors)) and memory fairly quickly and was all ready to see if I could get away not reinstalling my software when the thing wouldn't turn on again. Eeeek! In the end, it turned out that I'd not put a pin back properly. No biggie. Windows2000 keeled over when it saw all the new hardware. Heehee. I'll have to reinstall that but of course, the office's copy of Windows2000 has gone for a walk. I'll install XP on there tomorrow me thinks...
Drama ensued as I went to plug Tom's hdd back in. Bloody thing no longer works! Thank the Lord he backed everything up before leaving on holiday. I'm taking that into Silver Surfers, a local computer shop, first thing tomorrow morning - just to see if they can diagnose what's happened. With any luck it'll just be the power circuitry, though it sounds like the platter heads are knocking around in there during POST - at which stage the disk fails. So long as I can replace the disk, if it is unserviceable, and get everything running like it was, then Tom will be happy. Otherwise, he'll be a rather unhappy bunny. I'm just a damned unlucky bunny right now.
This afternoon I decided to call up four glaziers that I had listed from yell.com as serving the postal code region of a new building we've designed. We require prices for a firm that'll supply, deliver and fix the thirty windows this building will have. First company gave me an email address to send the plans and window schedule to so they could price from that, which is the easiest way of doing things. Great start! Second company took my details and said they'd get back to me if they'd be able to take on such a large job. I think perhaps they're more used to doing windows for houses, rather than larger scale projects ((not that thirty windows is a lot)). The third company on my list turned out to be the same company as the second. Different numbers, located nowhere near each other, yet I ended up speaking to the same chap. How daft. The fourth and final glazier couldn't meet the requirements as they could only supply double glazed units...the actual bit of the window that is double glazed and gets inserted into a uPVC or aluminium frame. Fun.
Weather has been smashing though. No doubt about it. Mind you, it's come as a shock to the system after all this rain we've been having. The heat wave is meant to last until Friday, when the rains are supposed to be making a return. Urgh, well I've rambled for long enough...I’m off to bed because now the schools are back, traffic on the way into work has increased ten fold.
