How much do you love computers?
I like computers and I know a lot about them, always have done - probably will continue to. Our technologies are rapidly advancing, being reborn or in some cases, being created from scratch. From a time when a single 1xCDROM Recordable would cost you £15, we can now buy an 8xDVDROM for a measly 17p. Forget cheap as chips, we passed that stage long ago. You think that 1Gb of PC3200 Dual Channel RAM 2x512 DIMMS is expensive at £200? Many years ago, an IBM 512kb DIMM cost £250. To put that into context, 1Gb of RAM is 1,024,000kb - you do the math...
I could probably talk about computers all day. I certainly use computers all day, both at work and here at home. Technology probably fills the gap good friends ((of which I have very few)) or a woman would, in terms of time and money. So do I love my computer? Hell no! I find talking to people about computers embarrassing, unless I know they share a common interest in the field. I hate talking about computers around women because unlike some arrogant techie ((certified types especially)) I don't think it's very cool. My love for building computers has wandered off someplace far away and I get little satisfaction out of trouble shooting things that go wrong. But that's just me...
Very recently I came across a woman who admits to being turned on by computer speak to an extent that has me somewhat bemused. I'm familiar with the phrase "mental masturbation" which was coined to sum up that feeling of excitement and anticipation stemming from ((stereotypically 'nerds reading')) articles and technical specifications for soon to be released technologies, hardware and software related. Once they have what they want, they're either fully satisfied or left wanting more.
Loving computers to the max; without the need to understand a thing about them. I don't think I'll find myself trying to pull on the basis of my computing knowledge on the off-chance this is a common phenomenon among women...though needless to say, it's interesting such women are out there. Though let's face it, if such a woman were on my doorstep, I'd rather think she would want me for the fact I'm a kind and caring person and not for my ability to send even neurotic psychopaths to sleep with computer talk.
