My day...
Just to start by saying the news that John Peel died of a heart-attack today has shocked me. I'm sure it's shocked everyone. I loved "Home Truths" on Radio4 and would listen to that via the BBC's website, which lets you listen to programmes broadcast on their various radio stations when you want to. It's very cool. I remember staying up really late to listen to John Peel when he was on Radio1, presenting new, weird and wonderful music. I also remember getting into trouble for it and all when I was younger. Well, whatever show he presented, his character would captivate you and he'd make anything interesting, even on the most depressingly mundane subject, he could probably make you laugh. I'll miss his shows. Such sad news '8[

This morning was good. Some animal designs I drew up went down really well, or so I'm told. Animal designs? You heard me right, heehee - and I'm still an Architectural Technician too. We're architects for the University of Plymouth, working currently on phase two of a sports centre ((phase three has now started a preliminary design stage, phase two should be completed and opened in Jan 2005)). Well the lower two floors of phase two comprises a rather large nursery facility for the kids of staff and students of the University. Well there's a large play area with railings and to save the kids thinking they're in a prison, it was suggested that the shapes of animals should be fixed to the railings. I was asked to produce four designs a couple of weeks ago, I did them this morning ((there was no immediate rush at the time)) and as I've said, they went down a treat.
By about 1500 I had done all my work for the day ((mostly redesign work)). Good thing? Yes, if you have something else to do. Seeing as I've not installed any games on my workstation since it was rebuilt and the LAN connection to my computer is dead, thanks to our maintenance folks, I fell into utter sleepy boredom. Everyone else was out of the office so it's not like I could ask if anyone had something I could help with. No LAN means no Internet. Tomorrow I'll bring in something to play for when I get these quiet moments. They don't come often, so I may as well enjoy them. Having nothing to do is so frustrating.
It would seem I have lost my photo card drivers license. I had to make a copy of it to fax off with authorisation papers for a domain and services transfer, as proof of identity. This was last week and only today did I notice it wasn't in my wallet. Can't find it at home, in the office or in the car. Gotta dig out the number to call and report it missing. What a bum.
During my lunch hour I popped into PC World, a place I really don't like to go. It's a world where dumb idiots sell computers to other dumb idiots. Go in for networking cable but don't ask for networking cable - ask someone for twisted pair UTP Cat5e Patch and watch their eyes glaze over. I found that out by accident when asking where they kept it when needing some for the office a couple of years back ((you think I want to spend hours walking around the store like a gormless fool when I could just ask someone?)).
My reason for going in today was to purchase myself a new mouse. It's doing double clicks when I press the left mouse button...and it's old...and I'm getting increasing irritated by it so I gripped my teeth and went in to buy a new one. I quickly found the mice and went to pay. Much to my amusement, the girl at the checkout managed to crash the till. I mean, a till...come on, work in a computer store and can't operate a friggin' till? Heh, anywho, the mouse works very well and will hopefully last three/four years like the last one did.
I'm now hungry and going to eat! :D
