Back to Work

Yikes! No sooner do I sit down at my desk this morning, a butterfly in the Amazon rain forest flaps its wings, triggering off an avalanche that rained down on my head. Time had stood still during the two weeks I was away from the office. My welcome back greeting in the morning was "the Vauxhall Street development drawings need to be finished soon but there's no rush." By the time I was walking out the door last thing, I was told "the Vauxhall Street development drawings need to be finished for a meeting with the City Council tomorrow at 1400." Oh great...

Progress on these drawings was been painfully slow today. Not so much due to my reluctance to get back into the swing of things either. I had started them just before leaving to start my holiday and assumed someone would have finished them in my absence. Well one of the partners had worked on them last night, into the early hours of this morning. The design had been modified slightly, which made sense, however, a massacre had occurred during the process. Complex hatches had been destroyed; single lines cut up into multiple lines overlapping with several layer properties on each little bit; layering throughout was screwed up; and for some unknown reason all the finishes had been removed - and not through simply turning off the finishes layer - someone had actually painstakingly gone around the whole building removing the 12mm plaster lines ((I'd estimate roughly 450 individual lines)) one by one. I was astonished by this because after all, the poor sod could have just turned the layer off!

Little surprises like this tend to triple my workload and happen more often than you'd think. Fair to suggest it stresses me a little. Then when my relaxed time schedule of "no rush" was upgraded to "tomorrow at 1400" whilst I'm walking out the office last thing? Yeah, that stresses me out to.

So welcome back...hope you had a good holiday... *sigh*
