Looking forward to the weekend

AutoCAD just died on me here at work so I'll take five minutes to say hello.

Last weekend I spent a good three hours wandering around Forder in Cornwall and though I took many photographs, I've not felt like uploading many of them to deviantART. Furthermore, last week I spent some time putting together my own take on The Phobots by =greenie which I have entitled I, Phobot. It has been in scraps as I've added images to it but will soon move into my gallery as I've been given permission to do so. I just want to add one more image to it. So things have been happening, only a bit slower than normal.

Now to this weekend. I am currently in possession of an old Canon EOS-100 SLR film camera and have been challenged to use it alongside my Nikon E5400 compact digital to see how well I handle it. I bought a few rolls of film yesterday and took about twelve shots. During the weekend I'll be using up the rest if the weather holds - we're forecast rain.

Having played around with it last night, there are certain things I have picked up on instantly. To start with, I love using the lens because it's so easy to quickly zoom and focus on objects manually - and the autofocus is amazingly fast and accurate. The camera has a good weight to it too - it feels good to hold.
On the flip side, my colleague doesn't have a macro lens. I've managed to hold my digital +14 macro lens on the end of the 35-135mm lens on the SLR to focus in on close objects but I really need a proper macro lens. Obviously I'm not about to run out and buy one but it goes to show how versatile digital cameras like the Nikon E5400 are - as with it I can take macro shots of objects up to 1cm from the same lens that I would also take landscape photographs with ((though admittedly I now screw on my x2 telephoto lens for that these days)).
I'm also finding myself taking my time to ensure I get the shot just right. Not that I don't do that anyway - just that I don't have a memory card that can hold hundreds of high resolution photographs on it. I'm limited to 24 exposures per roll of film and I can't delete duff shots. In fact I can't even look at what I've taken until I develop the film which after roughly seven years using digital cameras, is very frustrating. But we'll see what happens and I'll scan/upload the best ones up here. In fact, there are some developers that'll scan the photographs straight from negatives and give you your pictures on CD. I'm told Safeway ((now Morrison’s)) superstores do this so I'll have to look into it.

Otherwise I'll be indoors this weekend. I've got a couple of favours to either finish or get started on and I hate to keep people waiting for things. There's a little work I want to get out the way too. Nonetheless, any distractions would be welcome.
