Car
My local garage has now found the problem with my coolant water draining is due to a head gasket which needs replacing. Of course, these things are expensive and require the engine to be taken out the car which means lots of labour costs. Why it couldn't have just been a leaky pipe I don't know but that's the way it goes. Rover is apparently reporting lots of their cars having this sort of problem. Sadly I also require a new radiator, as the existing one has rusted badly. To get to that the front of the car has to come off so that's more labour costs.
They phoned me this morning to tell me they'd call later to say I can collect the car and arrange a time next week for the works to be done. They'd also then give me a better idea of the costs involved; however, they never called back and they weren't answering their phone when I tried calling them. So late afternoon I walked down there to see what was what. I mean, I need my car for work on Monday and it's safe enough to drive ((though I'm constantly refilling the coolant and if I forget to check the car will overheat)).
Problem was I got there and the garage had closed early. I wasn't the only one who'd gone down to collect a car, as another chap turned up at the same time to pick up his. Poor fellow needs it to drive up to London first thing tomorrow morning so he must be furious. I'm going to phone first thing in the morning on the off-chance they open for a short while ((they don't normally open over the weekend)). If not then I'll have to wait until Monday, which is manageable but obviously I would have preferred to have had my car back today.
Life's never straight forward *sigh*
